I had a similar experience: The code of my chess programm Nimzo-2 was 
stolen/copied overnight at the Paderborn tournament from my computer. The 
thieves distributed a slightly modified version. But in this case the proof 
was much easier. Nimzo-2 had a learn-file where it stored previous 
search-results. This file started by the number 19550216. 1955 - 02 -16 is 
the birthday of my wife. The stolen programm produced the same learn-file.
