[computer-go] Group escape

I have implemented the eyeshape analysis roughly.
Now I think about a group that cannot make two eyes in its eyeshapes.

I studied how GNU Go handle the escape to the outside. It seemed to
compute the influence based "escape values" and look at it in the
pattern matching. I think this method has two faults. The first fault
is to take time very much. The second fault is that escape values might
be zero though it is possible to escape. It was not hard to find some
cases where GNU Go gets a wrong answer when only one stone is added.

My question: How other programs handle the escape?
