I wrote a review of some solutions I tried when I wrote my CG2006 paper:

I ended up using psgo, after modifying it a little to fit my taste. I
did not like rectangular boards, but it is very easy to fix the source
of psgo so that it produces square boards. gogui has an export function
that will write the current board position in LaTeX format, suitable for
psgo.
