i think that one of the best ways for open projects
to succeed is to just start. the less talking
the better until a general framework is set up.
that way at least _someone_ has made some decisions.
after that, things can be open to negotiation, but
until there's momentum, well, there's not really
much at all. and talking almost never generates
the same kind of momentum that actual in-your-hands
code structure does, at least for me.
even a bare bones structure that can speak
useful bot protocols and has open-ended routines
to evaluate board positions or perform search
is handy. i'm not a big fan of java, but that's
just me. there's no reason that i couldn't write
the more interesting stuff (for me) in C and let
it get called as needed or as it's useful to
others.
